Public Safety Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded each year to graduating high school seniors who are actively serving, or have a parent actively serving Camden County in a public safety capacity. One scholarship will be awarded in each Public Safety discipline (Police, Fire, EMS). Applications will be judged on the basis of S.A.T. scores, class standing, citizenship and family financial need. If there are no qualified applicants, no award will be made. The amount of these scholarships is determined annually.   The applications are available in January of the current graduating school year.  Application deadline is March 31st.

Chief Gary R. Cline Memorial Scholarship

In honor of a very special friend of the Camden County Hero Scholarship, a scholarship is offered in the name of the late Chief Gary R. Cline, who served the Merchantville Police Department.  The amount of this scholarship is determined annually and is offered to all graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a career in law enforcement.  The applications are available in January of the current graduating school year.   Application deadline is March 31st. 

Chief Gene Dannenfelser Memorial Scholarship

 In honor of past President and very special friend of the Camden County Hero Scholarship, a scholarship is offered in the name of the late Chief Gene Dannenfelser.  Gene dedicated his life to Public Service and the protection of others.  He retired as a Camden County Fire Marshal holding the highest rank of Deputy Chief.  He held the highest rank of Chief and life member of the Haddon Heights Department.   Gene’s dedication to the fire service brotherhood continued when he was sent to Ground Zero on 9/11 for rescue and recovery efforts.   Gene fought a courageous battle with 9/11 related lung cancer.  He passed, surrounded by his loving family.   .  The amount of this scholarship is determined annually and is offered to all graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a career in a fire related field.   Application deadline is March 31st. 

Corporal Christopher Milito Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship award is being offered in honor of the late Corporal Christopher Milito, Delaware River Port Authority Police Department, to a graduating high school senior who is the son or daughter of a Law Enforcment Officer.  This scholarship is made possible by the financial funding of the FOP - Penn/Jersey Lodge and the Milito Family.   The applications are available in January of the current graduating school year.   Application deadline is March 31st.

Line of Duty Death Scholarships

Line of Duty Scholarships are awarded to those members of Camden County's public safety personnel who are killed in the line of duty, who fit the existing criteria for awarding said scholarships. The amount of this scholarship shall include books, required scholastic fees and a sum for tuition equal to the highest tuition charged by New Jersey State Colleges to be determined annually. Room and board is excluded. All scholarship awards are determined on a case by case basis and are awarded at the sole discretion of the Board of Trustees of the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund.

$2,000 Public Safety Scholarships

Law Enforcement -- Madison Ferris

Madison is a graduate of Kingsway Regional High School and plans to pursue a career in Nursing.

 Fire -- Devon O'Neil

Devon is a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School and plans to obtain a degree in Business/Accounting. 

EMS – There were no qualified applicants in this category.

$1,500 Chief Gary R. Cline Memorial Scholarship - Natalie Sylvester

Natalie is a graduate of Audubon High School.  She plans to pursue a degree in Forensic Science, with the hopes of one day being a Forensic Pathologist.

$1,500 Chief Gene M. Dannenfelser Memorial Scholarship - There were no qualified applicants in this category.

$1,000 Corporal Christopher Milito Memorial Scholarship - Andrew Carroll

Andrew is a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School and plans to pursue a career in Engineering.
